Pediatric endocrinology, a field facing substantial global difficulties in retaining adequately trained professionals, is struggling to provide adequate care. Pediatric endocrine care in Central American and Caribbean countries is typically handled by pediatricians or adult endocrinologists, a direct result of the insufficient number of pediatric endocrinology specialists. Endocrine societies rarely include these healthcare providers among their members, and they often lack formal training in this area.
Equal access to medical education in pediatric endocrinology and diabetes is the focus of this study, which details the scope of a virtual conference targeted toward low- and middle-income countries for health professionals.
The virtual conference benefited from the sponsorship of the Pediatric Endocrine Society (North America), the Asociacion Costarricense de Endocrinologia (previously the Asociacion Nacional Pro Estudio de la Diabetes, Endocrinologia y Metabolismo), and the Asociacion Centroamericana y del Caribe de Endocrinologia Pediatrica. Attendees enjoyed free participation in the conference, featuring 23 sessions.
